Tatreez was once tied closely to village and place, with a woman’s thobe telling where she was from and something of her own story. After 1948, as Palestinians were displaced into refugee camps and across borders, regional styles began to mix and tatreez came to express a broader Palestinian national identity. The surrounding bands reflect that change, with the keffiyeh at the center representing that shared identity.
